A Successful Team Manages Conflict Well

A successful team is the one that manages conflict through conflict resolution strategies that take into consideration the diversity in the membership composition of
the team. According to Gountanis (2008), “successful team members can effectively manage conflict.”

The most basic definition of a team is a group that has two or more people who need to interact with one another, while having a singular identity as a group, in
order to fulfill a collective goal with the use of ways and means that the group has agreed upon as norms. A basic organized
agreement and secret unwritten contract pervade a team.

A team consists of many different types of people working together towards certain objectives. Cohesiveness and teamwork are
expected in order to achieve the desired results and fulfillment of team goals. Conflicts are expected to arise from this diversity of people, the solution of which
lies in conflict resolution strategies. Herein lies the principle of team dynamics. The ability to manage conflict within the group, one of the most difficult and challenging in the realm of team management, can be considered a core competency if it helps the group as a whole and as a unit, as well as each and every member of the group, advance and grow.

Conflict is built into social interaction and is an inescapable component of social organizational systems (Katz & Kahn, 1978).
Interpersonal conflict is a natural product of human interaction. Much of the observations regarding this matter focus on
styles of conflict. Very few studies delve on resolving such an attendant and natural result, especially when the responses and
variables are protracted by way of having an interesting mix and intermingling of personalities and cultural traits. In recent history, conflicts in the workplace have
been deemed as a natural occurrence in a complicated world of complex human
systems.
